Detailed Itinerary

In the Shadow of Giants Tour is a safari that its main focus is the work of Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The wildlife safari takes you to Ithumba and Kibwezi Forest, Umani Springs Camps. These properties are run by David Sheldrick wildlife trust. They give you the opportunity to interact with the rescued and rehabilitated elephants which have been reintegrated back in the wild.

A visit Amboseli National Park which is a wildlife photographer’s paradise. You will be up close and personal with the elephants. Accommodation is in lodges offering comfort and luxury. This safari is led by a professional wildlife photographer.

This is a scheduled tour series for 2023 and 2024. The tour is running as below;

Day 1:  On arrival, you will be met by your safari guide and be transferred to your hotel. Overnight: Eka Hotel – (Bed and Breakfast)

Day 2:  After breakfast, you will have a tour of Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi at 1100hrs to 1200hrs. Later on you will have lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden restaurant before another afternoon private visit to the Elephant Sanctuary at 1500hrs for an hour. You will have the last visit at 1700hrs, for the foster parents. You will have ample time with the keepers who will furnish you with all the information regarding the baby Elephants.

Meals and Overnight: Eka Hotel – (Full Board)

Day 3: You will be picked at 0730hrs by Henry your driver guide for a drive to Kibwezi. On arrival you will have lunch and later have a relaxing afternoon. Or take on one of the various activities on offer at Kibwezi Forest. Meals and Overnight: Umani Springs Camp (Self catering)

Day 4: You will have a full day at Umani Eco camp. Umani is home to elephants, buffaloes, cheetahs, monkeys, crocodiles, pythons, birds and butterflies. The Umani camp overlooks waterholes fed by the springs. Meals and Overnight: Umani Springs Camp (self-catering)

Day 5: You will leave Umani springs for Amboseli arriving in good time for lunch. Your lodge for the night is set at a central location and has a magnificent view of the park and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Later in the evening from 1600hrs, you will have an afternoon game drive until sunset. Meals and overnight: Ol Tukai Lodge (Full Board)

Day 6 – Day 7: You will have two full days in Amboseli National Park. You will have a 0630hrs game drive that will offer you the opportunity to catch the glorious snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro offering the best photography back drop. You will return to the lodge later for breakfast and time at leisure before an afternoon game drive from 1600hrs until sunset. The animals are mainly found around the swamps. If the weather is clear and there is no low cloud cover, you may see the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, which forms a beautiful backdrop to the park.  Meals and overnight: Ol Tukai Lodge (Full Board)

Day 8: After breakfast, you will depart to Voi through Mombasa road. On arrival in Voi, you will proceed to Tsavo East National Park and check in at Voi Wildlife Lodge at the edge of the park in good time for lunch and an afternoon relaxing at your luxurious room. Later at 1700hrs, you will be picked by your driver for an evening visit to Voi Elephant Stockades. This is where the young ones from Nairobi nursery has a chance and opportunity to gradually go back into the bush and live the life of an adult elephant, the way it is supposed to be. Meals and overnight: Voi Wildlife Lodge (Full Board)

Day 9: You will have a half day game drive into the Tsavo East Park returning to the lodge for a hot lunch.  At 1700hrs, visit the stockades again to see the elephants. Meals and Overnight: Voi Wildlife Lodge (Full Board)

Day 10: After breakfast, you will depart for Ithumba Elephant Camp deep in the heart of Tsavo East National Park. Here you will be able to enjoy the orphaned Elephants that have been introduced back to the wild. You will arrive at midday for lunch and later have an evening with the elephants.  Meals and Overnight: Ithumba Camp (Self catering)

Day 11: You will have a full day with the elephants. Your driver and vehicle will always be at your disposal. The daily visits to the Stockades are guaranteed. A number of spectacular and breathtaking wildlife sightings await you during the Safari. Here, it’s only about elephants. Overnight: Ithumba Camp (Self catering)

Day 12: After breakfast, you will depart for Nairobi with picnic lunches arriving in good time for an 1100hrs visit at the Daphine Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. After, you will check at your hotel for relaxing and freshening up. You will be picked later for a farewell dinner and safari recamp at the famous Carnivore restaurant. Overnight Eka Hotel or Similar (BB)

Day 13: You will have time at leisure awaiting your flight timing. You will later be picked from the hotel for a drive to the airport for your flight back home in good time.
