East Africa is an incredible safari destination all year round. The best months though for safari enthusiastic is during the wildebeest migration.

When to go to Kenya

Kenya is the original safari destination. If you are planning a safari in Kenya, your bet is during the month of January through March and July through October. These seasons represent the dry season when animals congregate at watering points and hence easier to spot. Wildlife photography is also at its best during the dry seasons.  July – October is the Wildebeest Migration season In Maasai Mara. If you are an ardent bird watcher, you need to plan your safari during the month of October and November. Kenya receives migratory birds between September and April.  This period light showers and it’s easier to spot various birds. However, birding safari can be organized all year round.  For Family, beach holiday safaris, consider December through to March.

The April to mid-June season is the rainy season in Kenya and a great season for that interest in flora. It’s also a low season for tourist thus a great value for money. Northern Kenya offers an interesting visit as well as Tsavo during the period when it is greener and not very hot.

When to go to Tanzania

Tanzania share most of its tourism season with Kenya and it is an all year round safari destination.

However, for those who want to catch the wildebeest migration especially the “giving birth” or Dropping should schedule their safari during the month of December to February in Southern Serengeti although the migration is in Tanzania from as early as November.  For general wildlife viewing, your safari is best planned during the dry month of June to October. We would recommend August through October for a beach holiday in Zanzibar. December is also a great time to visit Tanzania especially for family safari holiday. For those interested with Mt. Kilimanjaro climbing, plan your holiday during the month of January to March and July to October.

From mid-March to mid-June, this is the wet season in Tanzania. Its best avoided. Nevertheless, you get value for money due to reduced prices.

When to go to Uganda

If you want a gorilla trekking safaris, you don’t want to go to Uganda during the rainy season. June to August and December to February are the best month since they are dry months in Uganda. Uganda has many lake and river that feed the numerous parks and conservation areas making wildlife easy to sport during the dry season.  Uganda is well known for Gorilla and Chimpanzee trekking. Every safari to Uganda would include an element of walking for the primates. Your safari schedule and planning should be during the dry season. June to September is the high tourism season and thus gorilla permits need to be book well in advance.

Uganda is to be avoided during the month of March, April and May which is the long heavy rain season.
